2U Night Out
Second Unitarian Church invites you to "2U Night Out," a Potluck & Movie Night!
To kick off this year's fun-dipped, Fall Fest, we're hosting a 2U Night Out: Potluck & Movie Night on Saturday, August 30th at 6pm!
Bring a dish and let your culinary imagination run wild—whether it’s a savory snozzberry surprise, a rainbow-hued salad, or a dessert worthy of the Inventing Room, your contribution will help create a magical feast! After the potluck, we’ll step into the Chocolate Factory and vote on one of the whimsical Willy Wonka films (the original 1971 classic, the Tim Burton remake, or the newest reimagining with Timothée Chalamet) for a night of Oompa Loompas, fizzy lifting laughs, and unexpected delights.
This event follows a “pay as you can” model—consider what you might spend on a typical night out and donate accordingly to support our Fall Fest Fundraiser and the scrumdiddlyumptious work of our 2U community.

Fall Fest Fundraiser
Come with me and you’ll be in A World of pUUre Imagination…2U’s Fall Fest Silent Auction & Talent Revue, a deliciously magical night hosted by drag king performer Cosmo Dragon, appearing as the whimsical, wonder-filled Willy wUUnka—a Unitarian Universalist twist (pop) on the classic candy man. Expect dazzling talents, scrumptious surprises, and an evening dipped in delight.
This year’s Fall Fest theme is inspired by the whimsical world of Willy Wonka, but in our version of the story, the factory isn’t just a place of candy and wonder—it’s a symbol of legacy, inclusion, and possibility. And, we believe imagination belongs to everyone, and in that spirit, we’re all a bit like Wonka: visionaries, dreamers, and builders of a sweeter, more just world. Like Wonka passing the factory keys to Charlie, we’re building a legacy worth passing on.
To bring that vision to life, wUUnka’s Inventing Room Imagineers are busy whipping up an unforgettable evening filled with astounding performances by 2U’s very own Oompa Loompas, a scrumdiddlyumptious Silent Auction, Golden Raffle Tickets, a Pop-Rockin’ Paddle Raise, a 3-Course Chewing Gum Dinner, and sparkling Fizzy Lifting Drinks (sponsored by Pitter Patter Parenting). There’ll be sweet activities for kids, a candy-colored photo booth, and delightfully sweet surprises behind every factory door!
So, click here to claim your Golden Ticket* and get ready to step into A World of pUUre Imagination!
Can’t make it in person? No problem! We’re broadcasting the factory tour live via wUUka-Vision (Zoom), so you can join us from your very own living room!
*Please do not let ticket costs deter you and your family from attending! FREE GOLDEN TICKETS are provided by other members of the congregation. Those who are able, please purchase an additional ticket (or two) to cover the cost of someone else’s ticket. Free entry for children under 17!

Social Justice Conversations
Stop by the weekly Social Justice Table (set up at the back of the sanctuary after Sunday service) to build our culture of connecting, having conversations about justice and taking action together on justice issues at 2U. There is a host each week to guide conversation and offer an action opportunity.

Sunday Service
Join us for worship on Sunday mornings at 656 W. Barry Ave, Chicago, IL. Church service and children’s programming start at 10:30 a.m. every Sunday.

DRUUMM Allies Meeting
We want to invite all white-identifying people at 2U to join the DRUUMM Allies and Accomplices Group. This group will work to build anti-racist community with a focus on challenging racial bias within our congregation. This is a needed opportunity for white people to build up collective efforts that will make our congregation more welcoming to all. Contact Pip Paris for details.

DRUUMM Meeting
Diverse & Revolutionary Unitarian Universalist Multicultural Ministries (DRUUMM) is a sacred place for Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC)—where we share our ideas, and thoughts and support each other’s mental and spiritual growth in a community of love.
Our gatherings take place on the 4th Sunday of each month, just before the service, from 9:30am to approximately 10:20am in the 2U Library. If you identify as Black, Indigenous, and/or a Person of Color, we invite you to participate in this empowering community. Contact Berlinda Browne for more info.
People who identify as white are encouraged to participate in 2U’s Anti-Racism Multicultural Ministries (ARMM) or DRUUMM Allies. Contact Curtis Smith or Karen Goldner to learn more about ARMM and Pip Paris to learn more about DRUUMM Allies.
